SAGINAW VALLEY STATE UNIV. - Feb. 10, 2007 - Whittemore-Prescott's volleyball team rebounded from Wednesday's loss to Ogemaw Heights by playing in the tough Saginaw Valley State University tournament on Saturday, winning one match and splitting one out of five outings.
The Cards split with St. Louis 21-15, 13-21, split with Cabrini 4-21, 21-19, defeated Lake Fenton 22-19, 21-12, lost to Saginaw Nouvel (ranked No. 2 in Class C) 23-22, 21-5; and lost to Cass City 25-12, 25-17.
"I was pleased to see us advance from pool play to bracket play," said W-P coach Helen Loomis. "Out of the 25 teams, 13 earned the right to advance based on their record.
"I was not pleased, however, with how inconsistent we played, as the scores indicate. Our best game of the day was (the first game) against Nouvel."
Leading the Cards (23-9-4) were Ashley Foco with 37 assists and 10 service points; Miranda Oakley with 25 points, four aces and 15 digs; Catherine Daniels with 17 kills, seven blocks, 18 points and two aces; Erica Loomis with 22 kills, two blocks, 29 digs, nine points and six aces; Katie Eymer with four blocks; Katie Borushko with 24 digs; Heather Popielarz with six kills; and Madie O'Farrell with five kills.
W-P hosts Tawas Area on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
