WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - Feb. 3, 2007 - Whittemore-Prescott took second place at its home volleyball tournament on Saturday, losing twice to power-hitting New Lothrop, including a 25-14, 25-18 loss in the championship match.
"We couldn't seem to keep our momentum going (in the finals) against a New Lothrop," said W-P coach Helen Loomis. "I would have liked to have seen more consistent play today, but I'm happy to have placed second."
In pool play the Cards defeated Hale 25-10, 25-22, Skeels Christian 25-5, 25-8 and Oscoda 25-13 while losing 25-15, 25-22 to New Lothrop. W-P eliminated Standish-Sterling 26-28, 26-23, 15-12 in the semifinals to earn their rematch with New Lothrop.
Leading the Cards (22-6-2) statistically were Miranda Oakley with 37 service points and four aces; Ashley Foco with 99 assists, 32 points, five assists and 37 digs; Catherine Daniels with 28 points, three aces, nine blocks and 42 kills; Katie Borushko with 26 points, four assists and 43 digs; Katie Eymer with seven blocks; Erica Loomis with 55 kills and three blocks; Madie O'Farrell with 12 kills; and Heather Popielarz with 12 kills and 52 digs.
The Cards travel to Ogemaw Heights on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
