Whittemore-Prescott sweeps Grayling, Houghton Lake

WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - Jan. 29, 2007 - Whittemore-Prescott earned a pair of non-conference victories on Monday, defeating Houghton Lake and Grayling in three-game sweeps.

W-P coach Helen Loomis wasn't entirely happy, however.

"I was not pleased with our overall play," she said. "I felt we played more to the level of our opponent."

Of course, if the Cards can do that Wednesday at home against Pinconning, that could turn out to be a good thing.

"We are hoping to pick it up a few levels to compete against them," Loomis said.

The Cards defeated Grayling 25-23, 25-14, 26-24, coming back from 19-24 down in the third game to earn the sweep.

"With Erica (Loomis's) consistent serving and Heather Popielarz's net play, we scored seven straight points for the win," Helen Loomis said.

The Cards' game against Houghton Lake wasn't as tight with the Cards rolling 25-14, 25-17, 25-13.

Catherine Daniels had 24 service points, five aces, two blocks, 24 digs and 11 kills; Erica Loomis had 23 points, seven aces, 34 digs and 21 kills; Madie O'Farrell had 18 points, 10 aces, and five kills; Heather Ostrander had 13 points and two aces; Ashley Foco had 35 assists, 10 points and two aces; Annie Thompson had 18 digs; Katie Eymer had two blocks; Katie Borushko had 10 digs and Heather Popielarz had seven kills.

The Cards improved to 17-4-2 for the season.
