Oscoda 3, Lincoln-Alcona 1

Jan. 10, 2007 - Oscoda's volleyball team earned a 25-16, 25-15, 23-25, 25-14 non-conference victory over Lincoln-Alcona on Wednesday despite not playing quite how coach Linda Hennigar would have liked.

"We did not show the intensity and aggressiveness that I would like to see," she said. "Our play didn't show improvement during the match, as has been the case during previous matches."

Still, the Owls led in all four games and controlled the match, other than in the latter stages of the third-game loss.

"We led 19-13 and 22-17 but had difficulty controlling the ball off serve receive and couldn't get out of that rotation," Hennigar said. "Even though this was a win, it was not a pretty win; we made too many mental mistakes and most of those mistakes gave the Tigers some very quick points."

Margaret Negro had 8 kills, 4 tips, 9 aces, 4 blocks and 19 points served to lead the Owls. Jeri CArl had 2 kills, 6 aces and 19 points; Arielle Beliveau had 4 aces and 17 points; Heather Patterson had 4 aces and 3 digs; and Aubrey Thurston had 3 digs.

The Owls play at the Gaylord Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 13.
