POSEN - Feb. 22, 2007 - Hale's volleyball team took advantage of the chance to play the spoiler's role Thursday, knocking out Posen's chance to share the North Star League title by defeating the Vikings in five games, 23-25, 25-17, 25-20, 21-25, 15-10.
Posen needed the win to keep alive its chance to tie Hillman and AuGres-Sims for the league title, but the Eagles put together one of their most focused efforts of the season to prevent that.
"The key to the girls playing well is if they keep their intensity level up and stay focused," said Hale coach Kristi Benedict. "Last night was a night that for the most part, they did that. Overall it was a good team effort."
Despite a low team serving percentage of 83 percent, Tarra Caverly and Rachel Bunner were nearly automatic from the service line at 95 and 94 percent. respectively, while Rachel Maher had nine aces. Caverly added three aces, eight assists, 11 dills and 21 digs; Bunner had nine digs; Maher had 13 assists and 15 digs; Terra Kelso had three aces, two blocks and 14 digs; Heather Albaugh had 19 digs; and Sabrina Provoast had three aces, 10 kills, 22 digs and two blocks.
