STANDISH-STERLING - Feb. 9, 2007 - Standish-Sterling turned in a strong third-quarter performance and the Panthers didn't allow Oscoda the chance to stage second-half comeback as in the teams' first meeting this season as SSC took a 62-45 NEMC victory on Friday.
Four weeks ago, the Panthers took a big early lead at Oscoda, but Oscoda came back to tie the game before SSC took a four-point win.
This time, SSC took a 25-16 lead at the half and built on it with a 21-11 third quarter.
"I'm very pleased," said SSC coach Tom Murray. "We have a lot of respect for Oscoda, and we had to play as well as we did to win."
Justin Migut led all scorers with 15 points, while Austin Collier broke out of a recent slump to add 13. Derek Welmers added nine, but, Murray said, "He was extremely disruptive on defense. He played a great game."
Barak Henderson and Adam Dettmer each scored 12 for Oscoda (7-7, 3-6), which had a three-game win streak snapped.
The Panthers (11-3, 8-1 NEMC) face Houghton Lake in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, while Oscoda hosts AuGres-Sims in a weather make-up game on Monday, Feb. 12 and hosts Fairview the next night.
