OSCODA - Jan. 19, 2007 - John Glenn had the momentum heading into the second half at Oscoda, but the Owls rode the hot shooting of Adam Dettmer in the second half to take a 55-44 NEMC boys basketball victory on Friday.
Dettmer scored 25 points in the second half, including 15 in the fourth quarter when the Owls outscored the Bobcats 22-10.
"We had a great second half after John Glenn controlled the second quarter," said Oscoda coach Scott Lueck. "We were not stopping their dribble penetration and they were getting to the hole.
"Our defense was better in the second half; obviously, so was our offense."
With Glenn doing an effective job of covering Barak Henderson in the post, Lueck switched up and put Dettmer there to take advantage of his height.
"It certainly worked out well for us," Lueck said. "I was especially pleased with the way he got his second half points. In the past he has been penetrating off the wing but tonight we were making the good pass to him. When they switched to zone, our kids were still looking for him. Our offensive execution was pretty good in the second half and we played well as a team."
The Owls also helped their cause by cutting down on their turnovers, committing just 16 -- "A manageable number," Lueck said.
Dettmer finished with 29 points, with Henderson adding 12 points and 11 rebounds as the Owls improved to 4-5 (2-4 NEMC). Chad Skrocki paced Glenn (1-10, 1-5) with 13.
