OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Jan. 23, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights exploded for 28 first-quarter points, quickly built a 20 point lead and held off Oscoda 56-45 on Tuesday.
The Falcons, who crept within a game of the lead in the North East Michigan Conference thanks to Standish-Sterling's victory over Pinconning, now have their destiny in their own hands as they still face both the Falcons and Spartans once more this season -- starting with a home game against SSC on Friday.
Pete VanOosten was big reason for Ogemaw's quick start, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and scoring 12 points in the opening quarter, while Matt Faiman scored another seven. The Falcons held a 42-21 lead at the half.
The Owls outscored Ogemaw 24-14 in the second half. Jason Jimenez did his best to shoot his team back in the game, hitting four 3-point shots and finishing with a game high 20 points. Adam Dettmer added 12. The loss dropped Oscoda to 4-6 (2-5 NEMC), while Ogemaw improved to 7-3 (5-2).
