BAY CITY - Feb. 23-24, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights will send two bowlers to the state finals after turning in outstanding performances at the individual regional tournament in Bay City on Friday.

The Falcons didn't fare quite as well at the team regional's as Pinconning won the regional title, while Ogemaw finished a respectable fifth after a strong finish.

Friday's highlight was the performance of Ogemaw freshman Kyle Turner and senior Ryan Bragg, who will move on to the state singles finals at Nottke's in Battle Creek on March 3.

Turner started off the day with his low game of 167, then fired off games of 266, 299, 195, 211 and 2-2 for a six-tame total of 1340 and a fifth-place finish. Turner came within one standing three-pin of a perfect game.

"After the first game," said Ogemaw coach Mike Duffy. "It was just, 'Get out of my way.'"

Bragg managed to edge Turner for the fourth spot, bowling games of 219, 246, 227, 147, 290 and 234 for a total of 1363.

The Falcons also placed Aaron Kihn 23rd with a total of 1190 and a high game of 232, Josh Phillips bowled an 1160 with a high of 232; and freshman Greg Awrey bowled a 1093 with a high of 243.

At Saturday's team regionals, the Falcons overcame a slow start to finish fifth, though it wasn't enough to earn a trip to the team finals.

The regional started with six Baker games and moved on to three team games.

"Halfway through the second team game, I challenged the kids not to pack it in," Duffy said. "They still had a chance. They accepted the challenge and in their final game they came away with the second-highest game shot that day with a 1032.

"The boys did a great job of turning it around. Next weekend should be a great experience for Kyle and Ryan."
