The college indoor track and field season is well underway now that we are to mid February and former Ogemaw Heights athletes are doing well out there.

Steve Manz is coaching and competing at McNeese State in Louisiana and is putting the shot out there at over 65'. He has a new website detailing his efforts at http://www.stevemanz.blogspot.com/

Check it out and follow his progress. I believe he will be at the USA national meet in a week and a half and that meet is being covered on ESPN2 I believe. Steve is currently ranked 4th in the nation.

Matt Edwards and Lisa Brindley are competing for Alma College. Both had a meet last weekend. Matt had a great hurdle race that has he and his coaches excited. He later ran the 200 and wasn't satisfied with that result. I am sure it will get better. In the hurdles he missed making finals by 0.001 seconds. This is very good for his first meet. Those 42-inch hurdles sure are tall. I have not heard from Lisa to know how she did in the pole vault.

Emory Nelkie is running distance at LSSU. He wrote me a month ago and said he was doing well and that they were about to start their meets. I have not heard back from him on how it is going.

Mike McGregor started out in January on fire. He vaulted over 16 feet and finished second in two very tough meets in the pole vault. I have not hear from him in a few weeks but am hopeful this progress is continuing. Sixteen foot vaults by redshirt freshman are quite rare and Coach Knapp is very happy with Mike at CMU.

Jessica Rutherford is throwing at McNeese in Louisiana. She had a few meets in the upper 30 foot range and I believe has cracked the 40' barrier now. That is exciting. It is good to see her working hard at the shot put which is not her best or favorite event. She is very anxious to start outdoor track and start throwing the discus. She says that practice is going well.
