Ogemaw bowlers take two of four top spots at singles tourney

BAY CITY - Feb. 10, 2007 - The Ogemaw Heights boys bowling team placed two bowlers in the top four positions in at the Tri City High School Conference individual tournament on Saturday.

"It was so exciting, I could barely stand it," said Ogemaw coach Mike Duffy. "It came down to the last frame of the last game to determine who took the top four spots."

Josh Phillips took the individual title with four-game average of 221 (a total pin fall of 885), while Ryan Bragg finished fourth with a 217 average (871 total).

Bay City All Saints' Drew Bauer took second with a total of 874, edging Pinconning's Chad Skinner (873).

"Josh has been struggling a bit lately," Duffy said of Phillips. "We made a last-minute change in his footwork on Friday at practice hoping that it might help him. He did a great job of giving that adjustment a chance to work."

Aaron Kihn stayed in the hunt with a 799 total. Kyle Turner (722) finished 17th and Greg Awrey overcame a rough third game to finish with 721.

"I challenged Greg after his one bad game not to quit," Duffy said. "I've told all of the kids never to quit, no matter what, and to learn from their mistakes. That's what makes them better.

"They all did a great job, and I'm very proud of them."

The Falcons are back in action Saturday, Feb. 17 at Bay Lanes for position round competition, beginning at 1 p.m.
