OGEMAW HEIGHTS – Jan. 13, 2007 – The Ogemaw Heights boys bowling squad earned a pair of victories at two different sites on Saturday to boost their team record to 2-1 on the young season.
The Falcons earned a 21-9 victory over Tawas Area at Hi-Score Lanes, then traveled to Pinconning where they defeated John Glenn 19.5-10.5 later in the day.
In the Tawas match, the Falcons won both Baker games (in which each of five team bowlers bowls in two frames), 149-120 and 191-140.
Ogemaw also earned points in individual games from Aaron Kihn , Hunter Awrey, Greg Awrey, Josh Phillips and Trent Garland as the Falcons split the two regular team matches. Hunter Awrey (216) and Greg Awrey (198) had the high scores for the match.
Later in the day, Ogemaw swept the two Baker games from Glenn, 209-194 and 191-171. The Falcons and Bobcats split the two team games, with Ogemaw earning individual team points from Kihn, Greg Awrey, Ryan Bragg, Turner and another half point from Bragg, who tied in his second individual match.
High scores for the Falcons were Kihn’s 236, 204 for Phillips and 199 for Greg Awrey.
The Falcons opened their season with a 29-1 loss to Pinconning, which is top-ranked in Division 2. Bragg bowled a 235 and 211 for the Falcons’ two high scores, with a 194 from Phillips and 190 from Derek Hughey.
The Falcon girls are 1-2 with losses to Glenn and Pinny, who are both unbeaten and a win over Tawas. Carah Kaniewski has a 144 average with a high game of 166, while Micayla Morris carries a 126 average and high score of 150.
The Falcon boys are coached by Mike Duffy, while the girls team is coached by Nate Kolberg. The North East Michigan Conference does not currently recognize bowling; the Falcons are part of the Tri-City High School League and compete for league honors against Glenn, Tawas, Clare, Mt. Pleasant, Bay City All Saints and Farwell.
Next up for Ogemaw is Mt. Pleasant, which the Falcon will face at Monitor Lanes in Bay City.
