WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - May 4, 2007 -Hale's girls made a strong run at the Whittemore-Prescott Invitational girls title, but fell just shy in a tight three-way race won by McBain.
The Ramblers scored 102 points to edge Lincoln Alcona (100) and the Eagles (96). Tawas (79) finished fourth, followed by Oscoda (53), Pinconning (38), AuGres-Sims (31) and W-P (25).
Winning events were Tawas Area's Quinn Knox in the discus (106-8); Oscoda's Megan Zarachowicz in the high jump (4-7), McBain's Megan VanderVlucht in the long jump (15-10.25), 100 (13.31) and 200 (28.16); McBain's Kaitlyn Westmaas in the pole vault (8-3); W-P's Catherine Daniels in the shot put (36-3); Alcona's 4x800 relay (11:03.11); Alcona's Elena Dunkel in the 100 hurdles (17.41) and 300 hurdles (49.16); Hale's Shanna VanHorn, Danielle O'Dell, Tarra Caverly and Kacey McKulsky in both the 4x200 (1:57.89) and 4x100 (54.37) relays; Alcona's Shannon McNichols in the 1600 (5:43.75); Pinny's Sabrina Vidalez in the 400 (1:03.83); Tawas Area's Sandy Brandt in the 800 (2:36.38) and 3200 (13:21.02); and Alcona's 4x400 relay (4:35.82).
Hale's other top finishers included Sabrina Provoast in the discus (3rd, 90-8) and shot put (2nd, 32-11); O'Dell in the long jump (5th, 14-6); Kassie Johnson in the shot put (5th, 30-6); Liz Lerczak, Shelby Fransee, Terra Kelso and Ashley Malin in the 4x800 (2nd 11:35.39); Caverly in the 100 hurdles (2nd, 17.60) and 300 hurdles (3rd, 50.52); VanHorn in the 100 hurdles (5th, 18.63) and 100 (13.70); McKulsky in the 100 (5th, 14.04); Malin in the 1600 (6:22.51) and 400 (2nd, 1:05.54); Kelso in the 300 hurdles (5th, 56.49); and Lerczak in the 800 (6th, 2:54.00).
Tawas's other top finishers were Amanda Anderson in the discus (4th, 88-7); Julie Enzenberger and Bethany Britt in the high jump (tie-2nd, 4-6); Erica Lundy in the pole vault (2nd, 7-6); Amanda Kaiser in the pole vault (5th, 6-6) and 100 hurdles (4th, 18.46); Knox in the shot put (6th, 29-5-5); the 4x800 relay (4th, 11:58.84); Brandt in the 1600 (2nd, 5:53.89); and Brittany Combs in the 400 (4th, 1:07.09).
Other top finishers for the Owls were Jeri Carl in the discus (6th, 84-2) and shot put (3rd, 32-9.5); Sarah Inman in the shot put (4th, 30-7); the 4x200 relay (4th, 2:02.59); Maggie Ungurean in the 1600 (5th, 6:18.69) and 3200 (2nd, 13:55.81); the 4x100 relay (4th, 56.27); Ashley Schonfeld in the 300 hurdles (2nd, 49.58); and the 4x400 relay (3rd, 4:53.51).
Pinny's other top finishers were Hannah Schmidt in the high jump (6th, 4-6); Sabrina Vidalez in the long jump (4th, 14-7) and 100 (tie-2nd, 13.70); Rachel Hauk in the pole vault (6th, 6-6); Racquel Kerkau in the 100 hurdles (6th, 18.76); Jessica Vidalez in the 1600 (3rd, 6:00.40); and the 4x400 relay team of Jessica Vidalez, Sabrina Vidalez, Schmidt and Lynette Pashak (2nd, 4:41.92).
AuGres-Sims was led by its 4x800 relay (3rd, 11:36.48); Jamie Taylor in the 1600 (4th, 6:11.58) and 800 (3rd, 2:47.83); Lydia Kauffman in the 300 hurdles (6th, 56.60); Kelsey Heinrich in the 3200 (3rd, 13:59.21) and the 4x400 relay (4th, 4:55.60).
Whittemore-Prescott's leaders were Catherine Daniels in the discus (2nd, 95-4); Rachel Pokorny in the 400 (6th, 1:12.18) and 200 (4th, 29.35); and Simone Pretterhofer in the 3200 (5th, 15:15.27).
