Tawas and W-P are neck and neck as the third leg of the 4x200 relay begins.

WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - May 5, 2007 - Tawas Area took a 29-point victory at the Whittemore-Prescott Invitational on Friday, outdistancing host W-P for top honors.

The Braves won the meet with 127 points, followed by W-P (98), AuGres-Sims (82), McBain (79), Oscoda (56), Hale (55), Pinconning (22) and Alcona (7).

The meet featured several compelling races and top performances.

AuGres-Sims' David Garske had his best day of the season thus far, winning the long jump at 20-0.25, edging Whittemore-Prescott's Billy Raushi by five inches. Garske also pulled off a surprise in the 200 as he leaned past Oscoda sprinter extraordinaire Trent Fouchey for the win in 23.04.

Fouchey held off challenges from Tawas Area's Alex Revord in the 100 (11.33) and W-P's Sean Siegrist in the 400 (52.08) and was part of the 4x400 relay with Nathan Samotis, Sean Krausch and Justin Can that got past W-P's Jared Dietzel, Siegrist, Dakota Popielarz and Jeff Pokorny in 3:38.26.

Tawas Area's Jeff Janis, Alex Revord, Kyle Schmidt and Tyler Klenow also pulled off a win by .01 in the 4x100, with Klenow leaning across the line at the finish to take the win.

In two back-to-back come-front-behind races, Hale's Zach Putnam caught AuGres-Sims' Jerry Ritchey at the wire in the 300 hurdles (42.69), and the Wolverines' Clark Larson came from way back in the 800 for the win in 2:11.42.

Other event winners included the Braves' Ky Barnes in the discus (122-11); Raushi in the high jump (6-0); Tawas Area's Tom Domerese in the pole vault (11-0); W-P's Kane Dietzel in the shot put (45-11); A.J. Baker, Nathan Trapp, Alex Lutz and Larson in the 4x800 relay (8:58.17); Hale's Luke Kaiser in the 110 hurdles (16.44); W-P's Pokorny, Siegrist, Raushi and Jared Dietzel in the 4x200 (1:35.33); and Tawas Area's Tyler Bischoff in the 1600 (4:48.64) and 3200 (10:33.65).

Other top-six finishers for the Braves were Brad Emington (3rd, 115-9) and Ryan McArdle 94th, 107-6) in the discus; Janis in the long jump (5th, 17-7); Wayne Enzenberger in the high jump (2nd, 5-10), pole vault (2nd, 10-6) and 800 (2nd, 2:11.91); Ky Barnes in the shot put (4th, 39-6); the 4x800 relay (3rd, 9:12.02); Revord in the 100 (2nd, 11.38) and 200 (4th, 23.68); and Seth Philpot in the 1600 (3rd, 5:00.50) and 3200 (5th, 11:12.90).

Other top finishers for the Cards were Kane Dietzel in the discus (2nd, 122-11); the 4x800 relay (4th, 9:33.14); Pokorny in the 100 (3rd, 11.71); the 4x100 relay (4th, 48.75); Siegrist in the 400 (2nd, 52.34) and 200 (3rd, 23.46); Raushi in the 400 (4th, 54.42); and the 4x400 relay (2nd, 3:41.46).

For AuGres-Sims, top finishers included Ritchey in the 110 hurdles (4th, 17.18) and 300 hurdles (2nd, 42.70); Garske in the 100 (4th, 11.73) and 400 (3rd, 53.51); Baker in the 1600 (2nd, 4:55.25) and 3200 (3rd, 11:06.98); and the 4x400 relay (4th, 3:46.19).

Oscoda's top finishers included the 4x200 (4th, 1:40.69); the 4x100 relay (3rd, 47.85); Cain in the 400 (6th, 55.87); Sean Krausch (4th, 44.28) and Jake Trier (5th, 45.28) in the 300 hurdles; and Fouchey (2nd, 23.20). in the 200.

Hale's other top finishers were Chandler Moody in the discus (6th, 102-0); Lane Self in the high jump (6th, 5-4); Cody Stoll in the pole vault (5th, 9-0); Putnam in the shot put (2nd, 40-4.5) and 110 hurdles (2nd, 16.57); and Eldon Barclay in the 1600 (5th, 5:06.53) and 3200 (2nd, 10:55.46).

Pinconning's top performers were Josh Federspiel in the discus (5th, 107-3) and shot put (3rd, 40-1); Cornelio Vazquez in the long jump (3rd, 18-10); and Jacob Szeszulski in the 3200 (6th, 11:35.54).
