JOHN GLENN - Apr. 25, 2007 - Tawas Area's girls track and field team defeated John Glenn and Oscoda in an NEMC tri-meet on Wednesday, while the Glenn boys were victorious against Tawas and Oscoda on the boys side.
It was the first time the Tawas girls team had beaten Glenn in five seasons.
"This was a great day to be a Brave," said Tawas girls coach Chris Lerczak. "We had some key injuries, but the rest of the girls stepped up."
Event-winners included Quinn Knox in the discus (102-4); Amanda Kaiser in the pole vault (6-0); Sandy Brandt in the 1600 (6:25.0), 800 and 3200 (13:44); Brittany Combs in the 400 (1:08.9) and Amy Johnson, Alaina Nunn, Kaiser and Combs in the 4x400 relay (5:01). Taking second were Brandt, Combs, Abbie Hutchison and Nunn in the 4x800 (11:16.85); Sara Blust, Combs, Julie Enzenberger and Sammie Duvall in the 4x200 (2:07.0); Blust, Duvall, Enzenberger and Johnson in the 4x100 (1:01.0); Kaiser in the 100 hurdles (18.5); and Rachel Faught in the 300 hurdles (58.8).
Winners for Glenn were Stephanie Hurley in the long jump (13-9), 100 (13.3) and 200 (27.80); Lauren Bluhm in the shot put (33-1); the 4x800 relay (11:14.16); and Bri Kokaly in the 100 hurdles (18.4).
Oscoda's winners were Megan Zarachowicz in the high jump (4-6); the 4x200 relay (2:05.5); the 4x100 relay (58.63); and Ashley Schonfeld in the 300 hurdles (51.8). Runners-up included Jeri Carl in the shot put (30-10); Zarachowicz in the 100 (14.2) and 200 (31.31); Brittany Lynch in the 400 (1:09.4); and the 4x400 (5:03).
"All the NEMC meets have been close, with all the teams missing key people," Lerczak said. "I think it's just going to come down to who is healthy and on the track on the day of the conference championship."
Glenn's boys survived a challenge from Tawas by winning eight events. Bobcat winners included Chad Skrocki in the pole vault (11-6); Zac Rowley in the shot put (42-0); the 4x800 relay (9:21.48); David Nichols in the 110 hurdles (15.2) and 300 hurdles (43.6); Tyler Wejrowski in the 1600 (4:44.69) and 800 (2:12.52); and the 4x400 relay.
For Tawas, winners were Brad Emington in the discus (116-6), Jeff Janis in the long jump; Wayne Enzenberger in the high jump (5-8); Janish, William Schmidt, Alex Revord and Tyler Klenow in the 4x200; and Tyler Bischoff in the 3200 (10:25.0). Second-place finishers were Klenow in the high jump (5-6); Enzenberger in the pole vault (11-0); Bischoff, Seth Philpot, Jordan Smith and Winn in the 4x800 (9:26.66); Bischoff in the 1600 (4:51.27); Janis, Revord, Schmidt and Klenow in the 4x100 (46.89); and Enzenberger in the 400 (54.0).
Trent Fouchey won the 100 (11.3), 200 (22.95) and 400 (53.8) to provide the only wins for Oscoda. Second-place finishers were the 4x200 relay and 4x400 relay.
