JOHN GLENN - May 4, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights took second place and Standish-Sterling took fifth at the first John Glenn Invitational on Friday.
Clare won the meet with 112 points, followed by Ogemaw (85), Saginaw Nouvel 972), Birch Run (52), SSC (47), Bridgeport (44), Vassar (42) and Carrollton (30).
Ogemaw's Brittney Stein won the pole vault (8-10) to provide the Falcons' only event win. Other top finishers included Kelsi Rutherford (3rd, 99-4) and Kami Shields (4th, 96-4) in the discus; Amber Schmitt (4th, 4-4) and Kristeen Soper (5th, 4-2) in the high jump; Jennifer Valley (5th, 6-6) in the pole vault; Renee Wangler (4th, 32-4) and Kayla Brindley (6th, 32-3) in the shot put; Noelle Mester, Chelsea LeForce, Holly Mester and Heather Villarreal (2nd, 10:33.45) in the 4x800 relay; Maggie Edward in the 100 hurdles (5th, 17.74) and 100 (5th, 13.28); Kalena Franklin in the 100 (4th, 12.90) and 200 (4th, 27.99); Edward, Soper, Selina Tabayoyong and Franklin in the 4x200 (2nd, 1:56.79); Holly Mester in the 1600 (2nd, 5:47.32) and 3200 (3rd,12:45.70); LeForce in the 1600 (4th, 5:51.42) and 3200 (5th, 12:49.62); Heather Villarreal in the 800 (5th, 2:44.52); and Noelle Mester in the 3200 (6th, 12:59.17).
Kayleigh Nelson (115-9) and Ashlyn Gulvas (100-5) took the top two spots in the discus to lead the SSC effort. Other top Panther finishers were Danielle Milan in the pole vault (6th, 5-0); Gulvas (2nd, 33-8) and Nelson (5th, 32-3.5) in the shot put; Noelle Lentz in the 1600 (3rd, 5:49.81) and 800 (2nd, 2:35.39); Gulvas (6th, 1:05.82) in the 400; Pickvet (6th, 2:45.53) in the 800; and Gulvas, Alyssa White, Kellsie Hinkley and Milan in the 4x400 relay (5th, 4:43.58).
