OGEMAW HEIGHTS - May 2, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights, two days off a two-point meet with John Glenn, was involved in another battle into the final event on Wednesday with Standish-Sterling, needing to take second place in the 4x400 relay to hang onto a four-point lead over the Panthers.
The Falcon relay team of Robby Kish, Zach Lynch, Casey Smith and Matt Franklin got the job done, grabbing a second-place finish that was enough for the Falcons to hold on to a 76-74 victory over the Panthers. Oscoda finished third in the tri-meet with 25.
Despite their third place finish Oscoda's Trent Fouchey was the meet's only individual three-event winner. Fouchey swept the sprint events, taking the 100 in 11.80, the 200 in 23.87 and the 400 in 52.16. The Owls' 4x100 relay team of Nathan Samotis, Justin Cain, Sean Krausch and Jacob Trier was also a winner with a time of 48.12.
Event-winners for the Falcons were Erik VanOosten in the 800 (2:13.80); Mike Roe in the 110 hurdles (17.06); VanOosten, Mike Lentz, Mike Morris and Zach Lynch in the 4x800 (9:13.80); and Bruce Vermillion in the pole vault (10-6).
Winners for SSC were Derek Welmers in the 1600 (4:52.20) and 3200 (10:28.0); Casey Potts in the 300 hurdles (42.65); Austin Collier, Kris Hazeltine, Potts and Mitch McFarland in the 4x200 (1:37.03); Collier, Potts, McFarland and Ryan May in the 4x400 (3:38.60); Collier in the high jump (5-10); Trevor Trombley in the long jump (17-8.5); Mark Stawowy in the shot put (50-1); and Keith Schmidt in the discus (129-2).
