Falcons 4th in Large School Division
Ogemaw finished fourth in the large school division of its home invitational, coming off a week where its seniors were on their senior trip and most were assuredly not spending that time working out.
"With such a young squad and getting seniors back after a week in Florida we were not in top form in all events," said Ogemaw coach Rick Frank. "I had to rest a few girls because of sore legs. I felt the girls who were able to compete did a fine job.
Winning events for the Falcons were Maggie Edward, Amanda Thurlow, Selina Tabayoyong and Brittney Stein in the 4x100 (55.84) and Kayla Brindley in the discus (111-11).
Other top Ogemaw finishers were Kalena Franklin in the 200 (4th, 28.76); Chelsea LeForce in the 1600 (2nd, 5:55.50) and 3200 (3rd, 13:12.90); Heather Villarreal in the 3200 (4th, 13:23.80); Edward in the 100 hurdles (6th, 18.99); Edward, Thurlow, Tabayoyong and Franklin in the 4x200 (2nd, 1:57.68); Amber Schmitt in the high jump (6th, 4-4); Kelsi Rutherford in the shot put (3rd, 32-1.5) and discus (3rd, 97-1); Brindley in the shot put (4th, 30-9); Rilee Palm in the shot put (5th, 30-6); and Kami Shields in the discus (96-6).
"Kayla Brindley stepping up and winning the discus was awesome, as all of our throwers have really stepped up in the past week," Frank said. "Kalena Franklin I felt really bounced back strong as she was not 100 percent (last) Wednesday."
"We have three meets this wee, which is really tough on any squad, but especially on the younger girls. The two league triangulars will be very competitive as right now the league meet still seems wide open for who will be the front-runner going into the league championship meet on May 23."
