OGEMAW HEIGHTS - May 21, 2007 - Hits have been hard for the Whittemore-Prescott softball team to come by at times this season.

That wasn't the case Monday at Ogemaw Heights, where the Cardinals defeated the Falcons 14-4 and 7-3 to wrap up third place in the NEMC behind Pinconning and Tawas Area.

The Cards jumped on the Falcons in the first innings of both contest.

In the opener, a five-run first, keyed by Kaylon Leslie's RBI triple and run-scoring hits by Julie Janish and Ashleigh Schulte, put the Cards on top to stay. The closes Ogemaw could get was 9-4 in the fifth, but W-P tacked on five runs in the sixth for the 10-run margin.

Theresa Janish earned the win, giving up four runs on four hits and four walks while striking out six.

Leslie had four hits, scored three runs and drove in two to pace the Cards. Sharesse King had two double, scored twice and had three RBIs, Kayla Wilson added two hits and two RBIs and Ashley Foco had a home run and three RBIs.

Kelly Rosebrugh had a two-run double, Jamie Lucas had two RBIs and Tiffani Rouse had two hits for the Falcons. Colleen took the loss in the pitching circle.

The Cards scored three runs in each of the first two innings of the second game to again take control early. Julie Janish had an RBI triple in the first and a two-run triple in the second to ignite the W-P offense. Wilson had two hits and two RBIs and Foco added a double. Julie Janish was the winner, giving up four runs in three hits and one walk while striking out four.

Jamie Lucas took the loss for the Falcons, but hit a two-run home run and Rosebrugh added a double and two RBIs.

W-P improved to 24-8 and finished 8-4 in NEMC play, while the Falcons fell to 14-16 (5-7).
