EAST TAWAS – Nikki Stein tossed her third no-hitter of the season and struck out twenty four, Rachel Adaline had three hits and Michelle Revord hit three doubles to lead the Tawas Area Varsity Softball team to 4-0, 2-1 sweep of Oscoda in Northeast Michigan Conference action.
Tawas took the opener 4-0 behind the a perfect game by Stein. Stein allowed no runs on no hits while striking out fourteen, retiring all 21 batters she faced. Nickie Shugart took the loss for Oscoda allowing four runs on nine hits. She struck out four and walked two.
Tawas took command of the opening game in the first inning. Raquel Cooper opened the inning with a single and stole second. She advanced to third on a ground out by Jill Fountain. Michelle Revord followed with her first double of the evening to score Cooper. Jenna Potts singled to left to score Revord with the early 2-0 lead.
Tawas added their third run in the second inning. Shelby Miller led off with a walk and advanced to third on a double by Courtney McKenzie. Miller scored on a ground out by Lisa Newenhouse.
Tawas got their last run of the game in the third inning as Katie LaHaye singled with one out and stole second. With two out, Shelby Miller singled to score LaHaye with the games final run.
Leading hitters for Tawas in game one were Raquel Cooper with two hits; Katie LaHaye with a single and a double; Courtney McKenzie with two doubles; Jenna Potts and Shelby Miller with a single and a RBI; Michelle Revord with a double and Lisa Newenhouse with one RBI.
Nikki Stein picked up her seventeenth win of the season as Tawas took game two by the score of 2-1. Nikki allowed one run on one hit. She struck out ten, walked four and hit one Owl batter. Nickie Shugart took the loss for Oscoda allowing two runs on six hits. She struck out two and walked three.
Game two turned out to be a nail biter. Tawas got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Rachel Adaline doubled to right center and advanced to third on a passed ball. Shelby Miller followed with a walk. As she got to first base, Miller kept on going to second which allowed Adaline to score on the play.
Tawas added what proved to be the game winning run in the bottom of the third. Raquel Cooper led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Jill Fountain. Michelle Revord followed with her third triple of the afternoon to score Cooper with the game winner.
Oscoda got their lone run in the top of the sixth after two batters were out. Justine Niemann drew a walk and scored on a double off the bat of Riley Shelton.

For the day on defense, Tawas was led by Katie LaHaye with twelve put-outs; Lisa Newenhouse with three put-outs and two assists; Raquel Cooper with one put-out and three assists; Jenna Potts with one put-out and one assist; Michelle Revord with one put-out; Rachel Adaline with two assists and Nikki Stein with one assist.
With the wins Tawas improves to 17-5 on the season, 8-2 in North East Michigan Conference play, while Oscoda fell to 3-16 (0-10).
