Ogemaw 0-3 at Alpena tourney

ALPENA - May 12, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights suffered through a tough weekend at the Alpena Invitational, falling 9-1 to the host Wildcats, 6-2 to Marquette and 11-3 to Rogers City.

In each game, the Falcons suffered through at least one inning in which they did as much damage to their own chances as did the other team.

Against Alpena, Kayla Lehman's groundball out drove home Michelle Berdan in the fifth inning for the Falcons' only run of the game after Berdan led off the inning with a double. At the time, that pulled Ogemaw to within 3-1, but Alpena clinched it with a six-run seventh inning in which errors had a hand in all six runs.

Colleen Wren took the loss, allowing five earned runs in six and a third innings, walking three and striking out four. Jamie Lucas and Lauren Gillette had the Falcons' only other hits.

Marquette scored runs in four different innings while building a 6-0 lead. The Falcons broke through with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on Berdan's RBI double that scored Wren, and Gillette's run-scoring single.

Wren pitched the first five innings and took the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out three. Jordan Foster pitched the final two innings.

Errors also proved to be the Falcons undoing in the 11-3 loss to Rogers City. Ogemaw built a 3-0 lead midway through the contest, but committed three errors as the Hurons scored three runs in the fourth, then two more in a six-run sixth that put the game out of reach.

Jamie Lucas took the loss, giving up eight runs (only three earned) on four hits and two walks, striking out two. Gillette pitched the final two innings and had a hit. Lucas, Kelly Rosebrugh, Theresa Wymer, Zettel and Lehman all had hits, with Lucas, Zettel and Tiffani Rouse driving in runs.

The Falcons (9-10) had their Monday contest with Whittemore-Prescott postponed until May 21.
