OSCODA - Apr. 19, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights' softball team evened up its record for the season on Thursday with a 12-3 and 13-2 sweep of Oscoda on Thursday.
"We had much better offensive execution, and our pitchers threw strikes," said Ogemaw coach Chuck Wren. "We still need to improve on the mental aspect of the game."
Jamie Lucas provided a rare highlight by hitting for the cycle -- a single, double, triple and home run -- scored four runs and had four RBIs. Lucas was also the winning pitcher, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out seven.
Lauren Gillette added three hits, Michelle Berdan had two hits and two RBIs and Colleen Wren drove in two runs.
Dana Shugart and Justine Niemann had the Owls' hits, with Shugart driving in Oscoda's runs in the fifth inning after Ogemaw (5-5, 3-1 NEMC) had taken a 8-0 lead. Nicki Shugart took the loss for the Owls.
Colleen Wren tossed a one-hitter in the second game, allowing one earned run while walking three and striking out seven. Wren, Lucas, Gillette, Theresa Wymer and Jenna Zettel had two hits apiece. Zettel had the game's big hit, a bases-clearing double in the third inningthat made it 5-0.
Riley Shelton started and took the loss for the Owls (0-4, 0-4 NEMC). Dana Shugart had her team's lone hit.
