BULLOCK CREEK - Apr. 14, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights didn't have the kind of day it wanted Saturday at the Bullock Creek Invitational as the softball squad dropped both its games, 6-4 to Sanford-Meridian and 14-1 to Petoskey.
Falcon coach Chuck Wren said it was a tough day all around.
"Our pitchers did not throw strikes and stay ahead of the hitters," he said. "Our defense had mental lapses that cost us some runs, and we did not execute well on offense."
The Falcons held a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning of the Meridian game, but gave up five runs in the fifth inning before coming back with two of their own in the sixth and final inning.
Jenna Zettel's infield groundout scored Michelle Berdan with Ogemaw's first run in the second inning, and Lauren Gillette's RBI single scored Jamie Lucas in the fourth to make it 2-0. Berdan and Zettel each had RBI singles in the sixth.
Lucas took the pitching loss, allowing eight hits and five walks while striking out five.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning against Petoskey as Kim Wickwire's single drove home Kelly Rosebrugh. That was all the Falcons managed, though as Petoskey scored at least two runs in each of the next four innings.
Jordan Foster started and took the loss for the Falcons, with Colleen Wren pitching two innings and Gillette one inning.
The Falcons (2-4) open NEMC play Monday, Apr. 16 at Standish-Sterling.
