2006 Season: 18-11 (8-4 North East Michigan Conference)
Coach: Chuck Wren
Returning players: Michelle Berdan, sr., OF: Kayla Lehman, sr., 2B; Jamie Lucas, sr., P/IF/OF; Kelly Rosebrugh, sr., SS/2B; Theresa Wymer, sr. 1B; Colleen Wren, jr., P/OF; Jordan Foster, jr, IF/OF/P; Tiffani Rouse, jr., OF/2B/C.
New to varsity: Lisa Bennett, jr; Kim Wickwire, jr.; Jessica Wiltse, jr.; Lauren Gillette, so.; Jenna Zettel, so.
Outlook: Ogemaw graduated four three-year starters after last season, meaning there will be some question marks as the Falcons start the 2007 season. Question marks shouldn't be in abundance in pitching circle, however, which is even more critical in softball than in baseball.
The Falcons return both their primary pitchers in senior Jamie Lucas and junior Colleen Wren, who were key components of last year's second place finish in the NEMC.
"Our pitching should be solid with Lucas and Wren returning, if they throw strikes and the defense solidifies behind them," says Falcon coach Chuck Wren.
The Falcons return all-conference center fielder Michelle Berdan (.351 batting average, 22 RBIs), middle infielders Kelly Rosebrugh (moving from second to shortstop, .243, 17 RBIs) and Kayla Lehman (second base), Theresa Wymer, Wren (.432) and Lucas (.384, 11 doubles, 26 RBIs). Jordan Foster and Tiffani Rouse also so spot duty at the varsity level last season.
First and third base and catcher will be critical positions to fill. Sophomore Lauren Gillette will be competing for playing time at both first and third, with Kim Wickwire and Theresa Wymer both in the mix. Sophomore Jenna Zettel and junior Tiffani Rouse will get looks behind the plate, while Rouse and Foster will fill the right field slot.
"We would like to make a run at Pinny for the conference title," Wren said. "Our standing has improved (each of the past two years) -- third in 2005 and second in 2006. Where we finish in 2007 will depend on how well our key positions mature." |
