TAWAS AREA - May 10, 2007 - Tawas Area took advantage of Oscoda's generosity at crucial points in Thursday's doubleheader, which was enough for the Braves to earn a 6-5 and 8-3 sweep of Oscoda.

Alex Verlac pitched two perfect innings in relief to save the victory for Justin Bielby, who allowed five hits and struck out eight in his five innings.

Tawas got two hits from Shaun Jordan and doubles from Bielby, Verlac and Blair Conklin.

The Braves overcame an early 3-0 deficit with a four-run first inning and added two in the fourth, then held on as the Owls scored twice in the fifth.

Mike Lamrock had two hits and two RBIs, Alan Poland had a double and two RBIs and Mike Wimmer scored twice for the Owls. Jason Jimenez pitched a complete game loss, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out nine.

In the second game, Oscoda led 3-2 heading into the fifth, but Tawas scored six runs to take the win.

"In each game one inning did us in," said Oscoda coach Robert Skodack. "An error at a crucial time allowed unearned runs to score.

"Our pitching has been strong and we're making contact with our bats."

David Schirmer started and earned the win for Tawas, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out six. Verlac again pitched the final two innings, walking one and striking out five.

Dustin Crevier took the loss, allowing four earned runs in five innings.

Jimenez had a double and four players had one hit apiece. Grant Burch and Ty McCoy had two hits apiece for Tawas.

Tawas improved to 6-7-1 (2-7-1 NEMC) while Oscoda fell to 5-14 (0-10).
