OSCODA - Apr. 30, 2007 - Standish-Sterling took to the road on Monday, earning a 12-2 and 7-4 North East Michigan Conference baseball sweep of Oscoda.
'SSC's Justin Migut earned the victory in the opener, allowing three hits and one walk as he pitched the first four innings of the five-inning contest. Brad Bialobrzeski had three hits, including a triple, to lead the offense.
"We came out and hit the ball hard," said SSC coach Steve Stodolak. "Bialobrzeski has been hitting the ball well, just right at people. Today they finally fell for him. Brad continues to get better and can be a special player if he continues to work at improving."
Jason Jimenez started and took the loss for the Owls, with Dustin Crevier pitching the final 3-2/3 innings and giving up three hits and two earned runs.
Jimenez, Mike Lamrock, Alan Poland and Todd Kerentoff each had hits for the Owls.
"The main problem remains the same," said Oscoda coach Robert Skodack. "Too many walks and a few untimely errors by our defense. This problem must be solved in order for us to be competitive."
The Owls didn't go down so easily in the second game, keeping the score tied or within one run until the Panthers scored two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Bialobrzeski picked up the win with four innings of two-hit pitching in relief of starter Ryan Donahue.
Torib Uchel pitched a complete game in the loss, giving up seven hits and four earned runs.
"Brad and Ryan threw well," Stodolak said. "We made a couple of errors that allowed them to score (some runs). Overall we made too many mental mistakes and will be working on those the next two days in practice.
"Give Oscoda credit: they kept putting the ball in play. Fortunately for us we made enough plays to get the 'W'."
Jimenez had two hits to lead the Owls, who fell to 2-8 (0-6 NEMC). The Panthers improved to 9-7 (5-3).
