OSCODA - May 5, 2007 - Oscoda played its strongest sustained stretch of baseball this season on Saturday, winning two of three games and claiming the championship trophy of the Owls' home invitational.
The Owls got rolling with Jason Jimenez' 8-0 shutout of AuGres-Sims, lost to Rogers City 5-1 and beat Hillman 11-2.
Jimenez blanked the Wolverines on two hits in the first game, walking five and striking out 11 and getting stronger as the game went on. Isaiah Kauffman had the only two hits for the Wolverines, while Jimenez supplied a pair of triples and three RBIs in his own support.
Mike Lamrock added two hits, including another triple, and drove in two runs. Oscoda broke the game open in the sixth inning with four runs.
Clark Larson took the complete-game loss for the Wolverines.
Rogers City, with Hillman considered to be a tournament favorite, scored four runs in the sixth inning to break open a 1-1 contest in the second game.
The Owls' Torib Uchel held the Hurons at bay until that final inning, allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three. Karl Gawne had two hits for Oscoda.
The Owls finished the day by trouncing Hillman 11-2. The Tigers, which entered the day 13-1, lost all three games in the tournament, though as much as anyone Hillman was conscious of overworking its pitchers with a critical NSL doubleheader against rival Posen looming just two days later.
The Owls scored in all four innings of the five-inning game, with Mike Wimmer picking up two hits including a double and Mike Lamrock driving in two runs with two hits.
Dustin Crevier pitched the complete-game win, giving up one earned run on two hits while walking four and striking out nine.
The Owls (5-10) travel to Pinconning on Monday.
