Ogemaw Heights 3-2, at Roscommon 2-6

ROSCOMMON - May 22, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights' Matt Faiman and Roscommon's Troy Lambert locked horns in a classic pitching matchup Tuesday as the Falcons did battle against their longtime teammate. Lambert proved to be as tough in a Rosco uniform as he was while pitching in the West Branch Little League program as Ogemaw had to scratch out a run in the seventh inning to take a 3-2 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Bucks came back to win the second game 6-2.

"Lambert vs. Faiman (was) a great matchup," said Ogemaw Heights coach Jeremiah Peace. "Faiman pitched really well and the defense was great. It was a tremendous high school baseball game."

The two teams played to a 2-2 tie through the first six innings, with the Falcons scoring single runs in the second and third innings on an RBI double by Faiman and Rick Dodridge's solo home run. Rosco matched that with single runs in the second and fifth innings.

Ryan Bragg drilled a two-out RBI double in the seventh inning to provide the game-winner.

"We bunted twice to get a runner to second and get one chance to get a run," Peace said. "With Troy pitching we had to get a guy in scoring position and hope for the best. Ryan came through with a huge double to put us up."

Kelvin Page, Rob Goulette and Kyle Weber also had hits for the Falcons. Faiman allowed five hits and three walks while striking out six, with Lambert matched that by allowing seven hits and one walks with seven strikeouts.

The Falcon bats went silent in the second game and the defense wasn't nearly as sharp.

"Game Two was rough," Peace said. "Bragg gave up one earned run after a few questionable plays extended some innings for the Bucks."

Bragg took the loss in pitching the first four innings, and Alex Jennings closed the game out with two innings of one-hit pitching, allowing one run. Jake Wangler had three hits and Bragg hit a home run, the first of his career, while Page had two hits.

The Falcons (25-6) next play Tuesday at Bay City Central and Wednesday at Mt. Morris before opening district tournament play at Pinconning against Gladwin on Saturday, June 2.
