OGEMAW HEIGHTS - May 21, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights wrapped up a perfect NEMC season Monday by sweeping Whittemore-Prescott 11-0 and 9-2.
Rick Dodridge threw a no-hitter in the opener, striking out 15 and walking one. Dodridge also hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning that enacted the 10-run mercy rule and ended the contest.
The Falcons didn't get on the scoreboard until the third inning but added more runs in each frame until finishing it off with a five-run sixth.
"It took the offense awhile to get the bats going," said Ogemaw coach Jeremiah Peace. "Btu we put together three good innings and with Rick on the mound it was enough."
Aaron Kihn had two hits, including a double and triple, and Dodridge also had a double and three RBIs. Kelvin Page, Matt Faiman, Rob Goulette and Kyle Wangler each stole two bases.
"Aaron is hitting the ball harder than any human on the planet, but is getting nothing on the stat sheet," said Peace. "He had two balls that off the bat (seemed sure to be) home runs but the wind kept them in. It's completely unfair, but that's baseball. He could easily be hitting .400 with better luck."
In the second game, Anthony Betancourt threw four one-hit innings and was backed by three innings of no-hit pitching from Blaine Powley, Kyle Weber and Page.
"It was a bit of a preview of what next year will be like for us with Rick and Anthony with as our 'one' and 'two' (pitchers)," Peace said. "He mixes his pitches so well and hits his spots. He's always been a very effective and reliable pitcher."
Betancourt struck out five without walking a batter. Tyson Dantzer had two hits and two steals while Page had two RBIs.
The Falcons improved to 24-5 overall (12-0 NEMC) while W-P finished league play at 3-8-1, good for fifth place.
