CADILLAC - May 19, 2007 - Road-weary Ogemaw Heights, fresh off a doubleheaders sweep of Kalkaska on Friday afternoon, swept through a Saturday tournament at Cadillac on Saturday, bombing the host team 12-0 and defeating Holly 8-1 in the championship game.
In the opener, Anthony Betancourt threw a four-inning one-hitter and the Falcons exploded for 11 runs in the third and fourth innings to end it early. Betancourt struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
"Anthony was on his game today," said Ogemaw coach Jeremiah Peace. "He mixed all of his pitches and had them very off-balance."
Matt Faiman had two hits, including a 400-foot home run, drove in four runs and scored three times to pace the Falcon offense. Aaron Kihn also had two hits, Tyson Dantzer had two RBIs and Michael Pacella, scott Kimball and Blaine Powley scored two runs apiece.
In the championship game against Holly, Ryan Bragg tossed a six-hitter, striking out 10 and giving up one walk.
"Bragg pitched great," Peace said. "The only had three or four comfortable swings against him. It's amazing to watch the confidence with which he throws now. He's matured and improved so much as a pitcher."
Michael Pacella, Rob Goulette and Matt Faiman each had two hits as Goulette drove in two runs and Faiman scored three.
"Goulette has had a nice stretch swinging the bat and driving in clutch runs," Peace said. "Pacella is a great story this year too. He's hitting almost .500 and is really taking advantage of his chance to play more with (Michael) Noffsinger out."
The Falcons improved to 22-5 with the victories.
