Ogemaw Heights 5-12, Kalkaska 3-2

KALKASKA - May 18, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights earned a pair of non-conference victories on Friday as the Falcons' late-season schedule started to pick up steam.

Playing on the second of three straight days, Ogemaw got strong pitching performances from Kyle Wangler and Blaine Powley to key the victories.

In the opener, which the Falcons won 5-3, a three-run fourth inning gave Ogemaw a 4-0 lead. Wangler pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four without a walk.

"It's nice to be able to have a kid like him step in and be in control of the game," said Ogemaw coach Jeremiah Peace. "It was a close game but we were never really threatened."

Wangler added an RBI double, while Rob Goulette, Matt Faiman and Aaron Kihn each drove in runs. The Falcons won despite being limited to just four hits.

In the second game, the Falcons staked Powley to a 7-0 lead after one inning and cruised from there. Powley allowed two hits and three walks in the five-inning game, striking out two and giving up one earned run.

"Blaine threw very well and picked up his first win," Peace said. "He's been coming along this year and is really improving."

Kihn had a triple while Michael Pacella, Goulette and Faiman each had two hits. Faiman had three RBIs and Goulette added two.

The Falcons improved to 20-5 with the victories.
