OSCODA
- Apr. 19, 2007 - It was a doubleheader that both teams were thankful to be done with.
Ogemaw Heights rolled to a 15-0 and 22-3 sweep of Oscoda on Thursday, and though the Falcons will take the wins, Ogemaw coach Jeremiah Peace is glad for a week off.
"I was happy to get through tonight healthy," he said. "Aaron (Kihn) is hurt again, Michael Noffsinger and Rob Goulette are playing hurt, Rick (Dodridge) was out again tonight.
"We have a week to get healthy and get back into the thick of league play."
Matt Faiman made things a bit easier for his team in the opener by tossing a four-inning no-hitter. At the plate, he had two triples and drove in five runs. Goulette had a double and four RBIs and Andrew Funsch added two hits and scored three runs.
Torib Uchel took the loss for the Owls, with just six of the 15 runs he allowed being earned.
The Falcons ended the second game with a 13-run fourth inning that broke open what had been a 9-2 game. Ogemaw drew 15 walks in the game and needed just seven hits to score their runs. Noffsinger had a double and triple, scored four runs and had seven RBIs to pace the Ogemaw attack and Scott Kimball knocked in five runs.
Anthony Betancourt earned the win the second game, allowing one earned run and striking out six in his four innings.
"Matt and Anthony both controlled the game very well," Peace said. "We had a lot of chances to hit with runners in scoring position and we came through We needed to come in and jump out early ... we did and now we're looking forward to getting healthy and competing at 100 percent."
Uchel, Michael Lamrock, Don Crevier and Karle Gawne each had hits for the Owls (0-4, 0-4 NEMC). Ogemaw improved to 8-2 (4-0).
