HALE - Apr. 20, 2007 - Hale was overmatched in the first game of a doubleheader against state-ranked Johannesburg-Lewiston on Friday, but was able to settle down and give the Cardinals a respectable battle in the second game of a doubleheader. The Eagles lost the opener 18-2 and the second game 11-6.
Joburg scored seven runs in both the second and fourth innings to put an early end to the first contest. Hale, which has struggled all spring to get its field dry enough to practice on and had a league doubleheader postponed the previous day, committed five errors that led to 11 unearned runs.
Tanner Shellenbarger and Mike Reilly each had RBI hits in the fourth and final inning. Chandler Moody pitched and took the loss.
In the second game, Reilly's two-run single gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Joburg scored 10 runs in the next three innings to take a 10-2 lead.
The Eagles strung together three hits in the fourth, including a double by Compau, to pull back to within 10-6 but could get no closer.
Compau and Reilly each had two hits, with Eddy Cadwell, Tyler Allen and Moody each adding singles.
The Eagles dropped to 0-6 with the losses.
