LINCOLN - May 21, 2007 - AuGres-Sims scored 28 runs at Alcona on Monday and needed every one of them.
The Wolverines held off the Tigers in both games of the non-conference baseball doubleheader, winning 13-12 in the opener and 15-14 in the second game despite giving up four runs in the bottom of the sixth and final inning in each contest.
In the opener, Alcona responded to every big AGS inning with one of its own. The Wolverines led 7-6 after two frames, opened up a 13-7 lead after four innings and then held on for the win as Kyle Gingerich earned the save.
Isaiah Kauffman started and earned the win for the Wolverines and added two hits on offense. Shane Lynch had a home run and three RBIs and Robert Towery added two hits and an RBI.
In the second game, the Wolverines scored 10 runs in the top of the first and nearly saw the early edge completely disappear. The Tigers pulled to within 11-10 after four innings, then cut a 15-10 deficit to one run in the sixth thanks to three errors, a hit and a walk.
Towery started and picked up the win while Gingerich pitched the final two innings to earn his second save of the day.
Clark Larson went 4-for-5 at the plate, while Brandon Kelly had two hits and three RBIs, Towery hit a home run and drove in three runs, Lynch had two hits and two RBIs and Travis Lee had three hits and drove in three runs.
The Wolverines improved to 16-7-1 and host Tawas Area in its regular-season finale on Friday.
