AuGRES-SIMS - May 10, 2007 - AuGres-Sims' baseball team proved to be its own worst enemy Thursday in its first-place showdown with Hillman.

Needing a sweep to take over the top spot in the North Star League, the Wolverines instead committed six errors and allowed 13 unearned runs in the two games as the Tigers took an 8-3 and 7-2 sweep that all but locked up the league title.

The Wolverines committed two errors, allowed four walks, two hit batters and two hits in the first two innings of the opener as the Tigers took an 8-0 lead. Hillman's Chris Richards wasn't about to let the lead get away, striking out 10 Wolverines and limiting the AGS bats to five hits. The Wolverines scored twice in the fourth and once more in the fifth inning.

Travis Lee took the loss, allowing five hits. All eight of the runs he allowed were unearned. Arthur Griffore had an RBI single for AGS, while Sheldon Kasky scored twice and had two RBIs and Ryan Gressick had a single and two RBIs for Hillman.

The Wolverines took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, but an untimely error in the top of the second led to four of Hillman's five runs in the frame. The Wolverines didn't score again as they were shut down by Hillman's Roger Jones, who earned the complete-game win.

Tim McGuire and Ray Lake each had two hits, and Travis Lee had an RBI single for the Wolverines.

Hillman improved to 17-4 (10-0 NSL) while AGS fell to 10-7-1 (6-3-1).
