ARENAC EASTERN - May 24, 2007 - Arenac Eastern hit seven home runs in a pair of three-inning games on Thursday as the Eagles twice defeated the Thunderbolts 15-0.
In the first game, Kyle White hit a home run in AE's four-run first inning and Ethan and Thomas Klopf hit back-to-back round-trippers to highlight a six-run second.
Brian Langstaff topped that with three home runs in the second game and Thomas Klopf hit his second homer of the doubleheader in the nightcap.
"Although the wind was blowing out, I would say six of the seven home runs hit were legit," said AE coach Mike Sanchez. "You could tell (they were home runs) from the second they left the bat.
"Our offense had been in a rut for a couple of weeks now and this week I got the hitting tees out and went back to basics and had them stay on the ball. Obviously it helped: every ball was hit hard and we were hitting line drives into the gaps. We had a total of 15 extra-base hits; hopefully we can keep it up come district tournament time."
Ethan Klopf was the winner pitcher in the first game, allowing two hits and striking out four in the three-inning game. Langstaff was the winner in the second game, tossing a three-inning no-hitter and striking out seven.
Langstaff added two doubles and Skyler Thacker and Sean Norton each had two hits and two RBIs in the first game. In the second game, White had two hits, Nick Phelan had a double and two RBIs and Jared Zobel had a triple.
The Eagles improved to 11-7 (6-6 North Star League) while MIo finished 4-10 in league play.
