FAIRVIEW - Apr. 19, 2007 - Arenac Eastern claimed a pair of non-league mercy victories over Fairview on Thursday, 17-1 and 11-0.
"Our pitching has been very good," said AE coach Mike Sanchez. "So good, in fact, that our defense really hasn't been tested yet. Our younger kids have also been hitting the ball well, which was a question coming into the season."
In the opener, the Eagles scored five runs in the second, five more in the third and six in the fourth to put the game to rest early. Brian Langstaff earned the win with three innings of one-hit pitching, walking three and striking out six.
Ethan Klopf led AE with three hits, three RBIs and four stolen bases. Thomas Klopf had two hits, including a home run; Kyle White had two hits and Allen Bilacic had two hits and scored three runs.
White threw a five-inning two-hitter in the second game, walking three and striking out 10 in five innings.
Thomas Klopf had two hits and four RBIs and Sean Norton added two hits, including a double. White had two RBIs, Ethan Klopf had a double and two steals, and Bilacic stole two bases.
The wins improved the Eagles to 4-0.
"I know we have a good team," Sanchez said. "However it has been difficult to judge how good we really are. Fairview has a young team and was playing its first games of the season. I'm looking forward to this week when the level of competition goes up a bit and we can really see what we have."
