CHARLOTTE, N.C. - May 26, 2007 - Grand Valley State sophomore Bryant Wilson, a 2005 graduate of Hale Area High School, claimed the National Championship in the pole vault at the 2007 NCAA DII Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Charlotte, N.C. Saturday May 26.
Wilson, who also claimed the 2007 Indoor National Championship in March, won his outdoor title with a vault of 17 feet, 2-3/4 inches (5.25 meters). This is Wilson's fourth All-American award and second national championship in his two indoor and outdoor seasons vaulting for GVSU.
As a team, GVSU finished with 25 points and claimed an eighth place finish, the best ever outdoor finish for a Lakers' mens squad.
"Bryant Wilson was outstanding,” said head coach Jerry Baltes. “What an accomplishment for him to back up his indoor national championship with an outdoor title.”
