ESSEXVILLE GARBER - Sept. 29, 2007 - Whittemore-Prescott traveled Saturday to a highly competitive tournament at Essexville Garber and came away with one victory in four tries.
The Cards opened with a 25-15, 25-14 defeat of Bridgeport, lost 10-25, 10-25 to Midland Dow, lost 9-25, 11-25 to Garber and lost 7-25, 13-25 in a rematch with Dow.
With two four-team pools, the Cards finished seeded fifth overall headed into bracket play to draw their rematch with Dow.
"As the scores indicate they were a very talented, hard-hitting team," said W-P coach Helen Loomis. "It was great to get a win against Bridgeport, but we still have so much to improve on.
"We're remaining patient and know this stiff competition can only benefit us in the long run."
The Cards (3-17-2) were led by Annie Thompson with 11 service points and four assists; Chloe Moraitis with 11 points and seven spike kills; Corinne Crawford with four aces; Kayla Camp with four assists; Leighanna Loomis and Stacy Richards with seven digs apiece; Heather Ostrander with three block kills; and Katie Eymer with seven spike kills.
The Cards will try to pick up their first NEMC victory of the season at Tawas on Wednesday.
