OSCODA - Sept. 22, 2007 - Whittemore-Prescott's volleyball team has paid the price for a youthful lineup so far this season. The Cardinals are improving, but as coach Helen Loomis noted after W-P's 0-4-2 showing at Saturday's Oscoda Invitational, "Our youth and inexperience is still shining bright."

The Cardinals split with AuGres-Sims 26-28, 25-12; lost to Oscoda 12-25, 16-25; lost to Alcona 21-25, 17-25; lost to Standish-Sterling 20-25, 16-25; lost to Ogemaw Heights 11-25, 19-25; and split with Hale 25-21, 19-25.

"Our overall play is improving slowly," Loomis said. "We had moments of great play today but still too many serving and hitting areas."

Leading the Cardinals were Annie Thompson with 25 points, seven aces and 22 assists; Katie Eymer with eight block kills; Corinne Crawford with 33 digs and Chelsea Jasman with 13 spike kills.

"I think our back row is improving, especially serve reception," Loomis said. "But the rest of our offense is still weak. We need to become more aggressive and consistent."

W-P (2-13-2) hosts Ogemaw Heights on Wednesday and is at the Essexville Garber tournament on Saturday, Sept. 29.
