OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Oct. 10, 2007 - Standish-Sterling pushed Ogemaw Heights to the brink Wednesday in another tight North East Michigan Conference volleyball match, but the Falcons came from behind in the fifth game to take the win and hand the Panthers their second straight NEMC heartbreaker. Ogemaw took the match 25-8, 18-25, 25-18, 12-25, 17-15
After dominating the first game the Falcons played from behind in each of the final four games and trailed 14-11 in the fifth game.
"We came back strong to tie it up," said Ogemaw coach Diane Gillette. "They got the ball back, but we then tied it up again before we took control (the final two points) and ended the match.
"We played up and down all night and I told the girls we would have to play hard and stay focused because Standish is a good team. We still have some work to do before the NEMC finals."
The Falcons (28-14-8 5-0 NEMC) travel to Pinconning on Wednesday with a shot at opening up a two-game lead atop the league before the NEMC finals round-robin, which will be at Whittemore-Prescott on Monday, Oct. 29.
Ogemaw stats: Lauren Gillette 6 aces, 23 assists; Jordan Foster 21 digs, 15 kills; Meaghan Tackebury 13 kills; Emily Sheltrown 3 kills, 1 block, 2 aces; Selina Tabayoyong 18 digs; Tiffany Rouse 25 kills.
