Falcons win Oscoda tournament

OSCODA - Sept. 21, 2007 - The Ogemaw Heights volleyball team continued to heat up as mid-season approaches, defeating five opponents and splitting with one Saturday as the Falcons took first place in the Oscoda round-robin tournament.

"I am very pleased with the outcome of the tournament," said Ogemaw coach Diane Gillette. "The girls played consistently most of the day. We did struggle in a few games with our serves and serve receive but we were able to overcome these things with good net play and working together as a team."

The Falcons defeated Standish-Sterlng 25-19, 25-20; Hale 25-21, 25-17; Alcona 25-11, 25-11; Whittemore-Prescott 25-11, 25-19 and AuGres-Sims 25-14, 25-14 while splitting with the host Owls 25-21, 17-25.

Leading the team were Meaghan Tackebury with 29 kills; Lauren Gillette with 55 assists and 12 aces and Jordan Foster with 46 digs.

"I can't say enough about how this team plays together on the floor," Gillette said. "(They are) always helping and talking to each other and staying positive. I hope we can continue to improve and be a force at district time."

The Falcons (17-9-4) are 14-1-4 since the start of September. They play Wednesday at Whittmore-Prescott and Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Gladwin tournament.
