ROSCOMMON - Aug. 24, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights' volleyball team opened its season Friday at the Roscommon Invitational, splitting its four matches and bowing out of the tournament in the semifinals against Kalkaska.

"I was very pleased with the teams' performance," said Ogemaw Heights coach Diane Gillette. "They played tough and never gave up until the last whistle blew."

The Falcons topped Benzie Central 25-18, 25-16; lost to Roscommon 13-25, 25-27; defeated Houghton Lake 25-14, 25-13; and lost to Kalkaska 16-25, 25-27.

"I honestly didn't know how we would compare to the other teams since we'd only had three practices with everyone present," Gillette said. "As the day went on the girls grew more confident of their abilities and grew more relaxed. Our serving was strong but we'll need to keep improving our passing game to be more effective at the net."

The Falcons (2-2) travel to Essexville Garber on Wed., Aug. 29.
