HALE - Nov. 1, 2007 - Whittemore-Prescott and Lincoln Alcona, both consigned to the Boyne City district, had the good fortune of drawing each other in Thursday's pre-district round and were able to play the game in Hale rather than travel across the state.
Alcona earned themselves a Saturday road trip by topping the Cards 19-25, 25-14, 25-14, 26-24 and ending W-P's season.
The Cardinals raised coach Helen Loomis's hopes with a strong first game, but serving and hitting errors caught up with them in the second and third game.
"I truly believed we would win this match, especially after playing so well in Game 1," she said. "In Game 4, we played better (than in Games 2 and 3) but had critical errors during the last five points."
Loomis said that Katie Eymer and Annie Thompson had some of their best performances of the year.
"Katie had her best offensive game of the year while Annie put up some nice sets for her hitters," she said.
"Despite our ... record, I felt the girls worked hard all year and showed massive improvement. I'm sorry it had to end this way against a team we had the ability to beat."
The Cards finished 7-31-2 for the season.
