PINCONNING - Ryan Kleinhans rushed for 224 yards and two long touchdowns and Nick Schultz scored twice on interception returns Friday as Pinconning defeated Oscoda 40-8.
Schultz returned an interception 35 yards for the game's opening score, and Barrett Penix hit Lucas Foco for a 10-yard touchdown pass fora 14-0 lead. Kleinhans followed with a 71-yard run that made it 21-0 after one quarter.
Foco caught his second touchdown pass, a 43-yarder, in the second quarter, and Schultz returned another interception 19 yards for a score.
Kleinhans' 60-yard run in the third quarter capped the Spartans' scoring.
Oscoda scored in the fourth quarter on a 13-yard pass from Justin Cain to Michael Lamrock. Lamrock also supplied the 2-point conversion.
"We had several chances following reat plays from Trent Fouchey to sustain drives, but just didn't take advantage," said Oscoda coach Chris Davis. "I believe this game showed our players they are capable of making plays, and great things can happen when plays are executed the way they are supposed to be.
"Defensively we found ourselves in some great down-and-distance situations throughout the game but gave up big plays on third and long. We have done that a few times this year and it has hurt us tremendously."
Newly-installed quarterback Justin Cain rushed for 37 yards on 15 carries and completed 7-lof-16 passes for 107 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Trent Fouchey, who moved to wide receiver, caught five passes for 72 yards. Zach Smith led the Owls with seven tackles.
Davis added that Eric Wiltse and Herman Robson also played well.
"Those two really impressed me with their effort and toughness," Davis said. "They played hard. Eric played the best game he has all year long and being on the line of scrimmage makes it hard to be recognized sometimes."
Pinny improved to 1-4 (1-2 NEMC) and hosts Tawas on Friday in the Spartans' homecoming contest. Oscoda dropped to 0-5 (0-3).
