LEROY - Aug. 24, 2007 - Friday's opener wasn't exactly what first-year Oscoda football coach had in mind.
The Owls, playing their first game since last year's season was cancelled after the fourth game, suffered a 40-0 shutout at the hands of Leroy Pine River. To make matters worse, the Owls had to have two players taken from the field by medical personnel, making it a very rough start to the reborn Oscoda football program.
Dylan Kachur and Mike Lamrock left the game early, though Lamrock's injury was the less severe of the two. Kachur will miss six weeks with a hip injury, while Lamrock was expected to be available for the following week's game at Elk Rapids.
"The game was a monsoon," Davis said. "It rained through the JV game and during pre-game warmups for the varsity game, so the field was not in great shape at all. Of course, it rained throug our entire game as well, up until about the very end."
Pine River led 14-0 after one quarter and 26-0 at the half.
Trent Fouchey completed 5-of-15 passes for 49 yards for the Owls, including two balls to Jake Trier for 35 yards. Thomas York had two rushes for 14 yards and Lamrock had six tackles before his injury. Nick Smith had a fumble recovery, and Trier had an interception in the end zone to end a Pine River scoring threat.
