TAWAS AREA - Oct. 10, 2007 - Hale's boys and Tawas Area's girls ran to victory at the Tawas Invitational on Wednesday.
The Eagles' Eldon Barclay led the pack with a time of 17:49, good enough to outdistance Ryan Pickvet of Standish-Sterling (2nd, 18:00). Ethan Parent (7th, 19:33), Nathan Turland (9th, 20:12), Zach Putnam (10th, 20:18) and Larry Thayer (12th, 20:32) also scored for Hale.
Second-place Pinconning was led by Justin Frey (5th, 18:59) and Derrek Lucynski (6th, 19:14). Adam Patrick (19th, 22:11) and Trevor McAlpine (24th, 25:26) also scored for the Spartans.
Tawas took third, led by Guy Cotter's third-place finish (18:45). He was followed by Jacob Winn (8th, 19:33), Shane Whitford (18th, 22:09), Bryan Bolen (22nd, 23:48) and Brandon McMahon (27th, 29:20).
Oscoda's Jeremiah Johnston (11th, 20:22), David Wood (13th, 20:38) and Kyle Myers (14th, 20:45) led their team, with Dan Vandruska (23rd, 25:21) also placing.
Cole Manning (15th, 20:46), Frank Michalke (17th, 21:45) and Keith Doremus (20th, 22:56) also competed for the Panthers.
A.J. Baker (4th, 18:45) and Kevin Fitzgerald (25th, 27:05) competed for the Wolverines.
For the girls, the Braves' Sandy Brandt (21:06) won the overall race, holding off challenges from SSC's Karina Pierce (21:09) and AuGres-Sims' Stephanie Wright (21:13).
Tawas Area also had strong runs from Emily Short (5th, 22;27), Olivia Bolen (6th, 22:37), Brittany Combs (8th, 23:10) and Bethany Britt (13th, 24:40.
Second-place SSC's scorers included Ashley White (9th, 23:36), Kayla Hilyard (10th, 23:41), Courtney Pierce (14th, 24:41) and Alicia Trombley (16th, 25:34).
Hale took third as Ashley Malin led the way with a fourth-place finish (21:46). Also scoring were Kelsey Scott (11th, 23:51), Staci Saurer (21st, 26:20), Danielle O'Dell (23rd, 27:05) and Ashleigh Tatroe (24th, 27;11).
Pinny took fourth behind the efforts of Emily Podgorniak (7th, 23:00), Lynette Pashak (19th, 26:14), MaryAnne Idzior (26th, 27:47) Brooke McKeon (27th, 27:50) and Sarah Trudell (34th, 30:20).
AuGres-Sims took fifth, with Adrianne Swaffield (15th, 25:34), Melissa Miller (17th, 25:46), Kristen Potenberg (25th, 27:17) and Andrea Swartz (39th, 34:24) scoring.
Maggie Ungurean (12th, 24:10) and Nicole Jackson (35th, 31:11) competed for Oscoda.
