OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Oct. 13, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights hosted its annual Northern Lower Peninsula Invitational on Saturday as a total of 12 schools competed.

Petoskey won the large school division, with the Northmens' Blaise Henning winning individually with a time of 16:13. Charlevoix won the small school division. For the girls, Cadillac won the large school division, with Charlevoix capturing the small school division. Cadillac's Katie Vandervelde (19:25) captured the individual race.

Ogemaw Heights' boys took second to Petoskey despite holding out two runners due to minor injuries. Martin Nelkie (8th, 17:23), Michael Lentz (9th, 17:36), Pete VanOosten (14th, 18:00), Mike Morris (18th, 18:09) and Casey Taylor (21st, 18:21) scored for the Falcons.

"The boys ran very well," said Falcon coach Doug Grezeszak. Petoskey and Cadillac, which took third, are among the Falcons' regional opponents.

The Ogemaw girls, paced by homecoming queen Colleen Wren, finished third in the large school division and fifth overall. Wren finished 11th (21:51), with Heather Villarreal (21st, 22:57), Amber Lovett (24th, 23:15), Brianne Price (29th, 23:23) and Jorie Diehl (31st, 23:27) rounding out the Falcons' top five.

"We had a very nice race," said Ogemaw coach Rick Frank. "Tawas was just ahead of us, so it will be a lot of fun next Saturday at Standish (for the NEMC finals).

The Tawas Area boys finished fourth in the small school division, led by Guy Cotter (19th, 18:13) and Jacob Winn (39th, 19:13). Sandy Brandt (8th, 21:33) and Emily Short (9th, 21:36) led the Tawas girls, who took second in the small schools.

The AuGres-Sims girls took fifth in the small school division, led by Stephanie Wright (7th, 21:29), Adrianne Swaffield (60th, 25:45) and Melissa Miller (62nd, 25:51). A.J. Baker (16th, 18:03) and Kevin Fitzgerald ran for the AGS boys who weren't scored as a team.

Pinconning also competed but wasn't scored as a team. The Pinny boys were led by Justin Frey (25th, 18:32) and Derrek Lucynski (41st, 19:16), while the girls were led by Emily Podgorniak (33rd, 23:50).
