Coach: Will Robelli (3rd year)
2004-5 Record: 6-22; lost first round of team district tourney
Returning athletes: Calvin Trevarrow, soph. (145/152 lbs.); Dan Higgins, soph. (160); Roy Bernard, soph. (171/189).
First time on varsity: Quentin Johnson, fr. (103); Aaron Trevarrow, fr. (112); Shaun Myers, fr. (119/125); Mike Reinhardt, fr. (135/140); T.J. Kolb, jr. (160/171); Jerry Stanchik, soph. (160/171); Ryan Brewington, sr. (171/189); Tony Brown, fr. (215/275).
Going their way: The Eagles only have three returning athletes, and all are sophomores. But Hale coach Will Robelli hopes that by focusing on individual improvement some of his youthful team will be experiencing success by the end of the season. “Hopefully we can get a couple of the kids through districts to regionals,” Robelli says. “If they can experience what regional are like they’ll have a better idea of how much work it takes to compete at that level.”
Something to prove: With almost no experience, the Eagles will take some lumps, especially since they don’t fill all their weight classes with only an 11-man roster. “Obviously we’re very young,” Robelli says. “It’s going to be a rebuilding year. The key is going to be our ability to stick with it and get better as we go.”
X-Factor: Some of the Eagles’ freshmen have experienced success at the youth wrestling level. How quickly they can adjust to wrestling at the varsity level may give Hale the ability to pull some surprises at individual districts in February. |
