WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT – Feb. 4, 2006 – Whittemore-Prescott won three of four matches at its home volleyball tourney Saturday before falling to Sanford-Meridian in the semifinals.
The Cards defeated Tawas Area 25-16, 25-23, topped Skeels Christian 25-8, 25-17, fell to state power New Lothrop 13-25, 16-25 and beat Lincoln-Alcona 25-22, 25-8. In the semifinals W-P lost 15-25, 22-25 to the Mustangs, who will host W-P and several other squad in the district tournament.
“We’re looking for more consistency on defense,” said W-P coach Helen Loomis. “Against Sanford-Meridian, we were really up-and-down in the first game, but played very well in the second game. Hopefully we’ll be able to beat them at districts.”
Leading the Cards were Erin Grezeszak with 35 points, 10 aces and 19 spike kills; Catherine Daniels with 25 points, five aces, six blocks and 17 spike kills; Madie O’Farrell with 18 points and three aces; Erica Loomis with 17 points, seven aces, five blocks, 43 digs and 30 spike kills; Ashley Foco with 16 points and one ace; and Stephanie Aviles with 51 assists and 49 digs.
